Background:
The Francis Crick Institute ("The Crick") is a brand new, world-leading centre of biomedical discovery and innovation, which opened in a new, £7000m purpose-built research faculty in Kings Cross in August 2016. Formed from a partnership between the Medical Research Council (MRC), Cancer Research UK (CRUK), the Wellcome Trust, University College London (UCL), Imperial College London and King's College London (KCL), The Crick is now home to approximately 1,500 staff, including 1250 scientists.
During its formation, CRUK’s London Research Institute (LRI) and MRC’s National Institute for Medical Research became part of the Crick: organisationally in April 2015 through a TUPE and physically by migrating into the new building between August and December 2016.
Challenge:
As well as planning a new IT strategy to deliver a new state-of-the-art infrastructure that would be required for the centre's successful operation, The Crick also were faced with the challenge of the post migration of the three merged IT teams of CRUK’s London Research Institute (LRI), MRC’s National Institute for Medical Research as well as building The Crick’s own fledging IT team.
Solution:
Inspire People were given the responsibility of finding the Crick's first CIO, undertaking a global headhunt search, identifying individuals from a range of fields including Research Institutes, Universities, Healthcare and Pharmaceutical companies.
Following this successful hire, Inspire People have continued to support The Crick’s IT recruitment requirements, introducing a number of highly talented IT professionals to support both Business Transformation and IT Infrastructure projects, including Business Analysts, Project Managers, Infrastructure Architects, System Administrators and Application System Analysts on a permanent, fixed term and contract basis.
Feedback:
"Andrew and the team at Inspire People undertook an international search assignment to find our Director of ICT. We were impressed with their truly global reach and excellent shortlist. Their professionalism and subject matter expertise, along with their enthusiastic and commercial approach made them a pleasure to work with."
Amanda Arrowsmith, Interim HR Director at The Crick
